Evo 6 ideja kako taj svoj prostor možemo kvalitetno organizirati i time si olakšati učenje.

1. Dovoljno mjesta

Note složite u ladicu/ormarić u kojem ćete uvijek znati da ih možete naći.

6. Note, olovka, metronom, pribor

Daily practicing is not easy. It takes great discipline, willpower, and motivation to make it successful. But practice space is also very important to make the whole process comfortable and get the results. Here are 6 ideas on how we can organize our space and make learning easier:

1. Enough space

For starters, we must have enough space to accommodate everything we need for practicing – a music stand, an instrument, a chair if we practice while sitting.

Standing and holding the violin requires a certain amount of space, and we must not forget to add enough extra space to move while playing. In doing so, think not only of the necessary movements to produce tone but of free movement during inspired music-making. Provide enough space so that even in the greatest musical ecstasies the instrument is not damaged – breaking the bow is more common than we think!

If you have some free space on the wall, decorate it with some motivating posters or a nice picture.

2. Nice and tidy

Keep your practice space tidy so that scattered sheet music or messy instrument don’t demotivate you from practicing or make you lose focus.

After you finish your practicing, first clean the instrument and carefully pack it in its case.

Be careful not to leave too many music books on the stand, as such a stand collapses easily and can cause considerable damage – torn music sheet, scratched furniture, broken instruments… Put the music in a drawer/cabinet where you will always know you can find them. If you have a shelf where you keep notes, organizers like this help a lot!

During the regular house cleaning, don’t forget to clean the dust from the stand!

At least once during the school year, and especially at the end of it, be sure to rearrange all the music you have in the locker. Store books that you will no longer use elsewhere so that new and current music is more easily available to you. Boxes or folders always come in handy for good organization.

3. Light

Proper lighting of the score is extremely important, not only to preserve good eyesight, but also for the speed and accuracy of reading notes, so ensure a sufficient amount of daylight during the day, and in the dark adequate artificial lighting, both indirect and direct. If the stand is in an insufficiently lit part, these light and flexible stand lamps can help.

4. Peace

Before you start to practice, turn off electronic devices that may disturb you.

If you practice next to a window facing the noisier part of the street, close it while practicing. In the warmer part of the year, if you don’t have air conditioning, be sure to ventilate thoroughly during practice breaks.

Pets can have so cute reactions to playing, but it is still better to leave them outside the space where we practice to maintain good concentration. Offer them this toy for fun – some popular arrangements of songs have even been played on it!

5. Stand

Several types of music stand differ in their functionality, stability, strength, and price.

Most musicians start with the folding one, there are different colors – yellow, pink, blue, black… It is important to set it up correctly, here is a short video tutorial on that. They are lightweight, do not take up much space, are easily portable, and are very affordable.

Some musicians, however, prefer slightly more robust stands that are much more stable and sturdy. Music does not fall off so easily, they are more durable because they do not fold and transfer, but their price is slightly higher than the foldable ones.

The main function of the music stand is to keep the music sheet steady at eye level or slightly lower, so choose your music stand accordingly. This basic function is satisfied by every undamaged stand, and everything else comes to your taste and needs. Slightly taller players usually have a problem with the height of the stand because no stand can be pulled above the balance point so it wouldn’t tip over, but there is a solution for that – lifting the stand on a chair.

6. Music sheet, pencil, metronome, accessories

We have already mentioned how important it is to keep the music tidy. Sometimes we have to make some marks and notes into the score that we use. For that reason we should always have a good pencil with an eraser on hand, it is best to keep it on a stand (this one is magnetic!) or near the stand. For some more noticeable notes, we can use crayons or various stickers.

An ancient saying goes that the metronome is the musician’s best friend. Today, there are countless mobile applications that we can install, so we can put our cell phone on a stand when we practice. But nothing can replace a good, old, real metronome. Always keep it near the stand, and if it is smaller, you can also place it on a note stand while practicing.

Many musicians use some teaching aids when practicing – bow holders, pins, hourglass… After use, store them in a practical basket somewhere in your practice space.

One of the extremely important things for effective practicing is both practice planning and progress monitoring. In The Practice Diary, you can easily have it all in one place, improve your practice today!!
