Priprema dampita

Umetanje dampita u instrument

Uži kraj dampita umećemo u širu rupicu f-otvora na strani podbratka. Uguramo dampit do kraja i ostavimo ga cijeli dan. Jedino u slučaju jako suhoga zraka ponekad je potrebno i dva puta dnevno natopiti spužvicu, tj. ponoviti cijeli proces.

Dampit nam neće smetati tijekom sviranja zbog položaja u f-otvoru nasuprot gudalu, a zbog svoje građe neće niti rezonirati. Možemo ga slobodno ostaviti tijekom noći u instrumentu u zatvorenoj kutiji.

Budite brižni prema svome instrumentu i svakodnevno se sjetite napuniti dampit vodom sve dok ne prođe sezona grijanja, tj. prirodna vlažnost zraka dođe iznad 50%.

In areas of continental climate where we use heating during several cold months a year, the air can be very dry, which greatly affects the sound quality and functionality of the instrument, as well as its durability.

Hygrometer

The optimal humidity for good storage and functioning of the instrument is 40% -60%, which we check with a hygrometer. Many instrument cases have a built-in hygrometer, but if you don’t have one, it’s very affordable.

Dampit

During the heating season, when the humidity can sometimes get much lower than 40%, in addition to room humidifiers that we should use for general health, it is very important to use a dampit so that the instrument does not dry out too much. Dampit is the name for the instrument humidifier, a rubber hose drilled in several places with the sponge inside. We use it every day, and depending on the level of humidity, sometimes more dampit is needed. If your instrument is handmade, regardless of its value, the dump is a MUST for you (just like for all Strads and Guarneris)!

Preparing the Dampit

Put the dampit in a glass of water for 1 minute to soak the sponge inside. You can also do this under a stream of tap water, gently squeezing the sponge through the entire length to soak it with water. When the sponge is filled with water, gently squeeze it several times along its entire length to allow excess water to drain out before inserting it into the instrument. Make sure that some water remains in the sponge ?

Then wipe the dampit well with a dry cloth or paper towel so that no liquid remains on the outer surface of the rubber that could damage the instrument.

Inserting a dampit into the instrument

The narrow end of the dampit is inserted into the wider hole of the f-hole on the chinrest side. We push the dampit to the end and leave it all day. Only in the case of very dry air is it sometimes necessary to soak the sponge twice a day, ie to repeat the whole process.

Dampit won’t bother us while playing because of the position in the f-hole opposite the bow, and because of its structure, it won’t even resonate. We are free to leave it overnight in the instrument in a closed case.

Take care of your instrument and remember to soak the dampit with water every day until the heating season is over or the natural humidity reaches above 50%.
